ok, i'm new here and don't know anything about access so bear with me if this is a stoopid question:

i am working on a flash project which interfaces with a database.

someone has sent me a .mdb file so i can get an idea of what the database looks like.

problem is i don't have ms access.

is there any other way to open this file?

Not without the appropriate version, or higher, of Access.

You can look at the data by linking to tables from Excel or Word. But to open the app itself, you need either a retail or runtime version of Access.

Read the description again. It does not run the application, it simply lets you look at the tables. This you can do as I already said with Word and Excel.

FYI, I just downloaded the program in question and was able to edit and save a .mdb file.

You are correct, that you can edit the data and create queries

BUT, you cannot open any of the forms to see how they are setup.
The forms are the GUI of the database that let you control how the data is entered, manipulated or printed so that the user does not have to know how to use Access to use the database.

I believe you can open .mdb file with BASE in OpenOffice.org.

Why on earth are we revisiting a 4 year old thread?

WE aren't, patc1111 was and so we were responding to their post. Why they decided to post that, here and now, is a complete mystery.

Mock, why bother to reply to a thread that's been dormant for 7 months?

This thread was opened in 2003, the conclusion will allway be actual, sadly, because you will have to pay for microsoft if you want to open the access forms... yesterday, today and probably tomorrow...

@smath

Welcome to the Forum! :)

That said, you really should stat your own thread and detail your problem with any error messages you are seeing. It will get more eyes on your issue as folks are likely to pass by a thread that's 4+ years old.
