I have an access 2000 db that is running on a network. The problem is that even thought nobody is running the application the lock file is not being deleted after the application is close, and it can't be deleted. I'm normally at work before the rest of the group in order to run maintenance on the databases (Compact and repair). If the .ldb exist I deleted, refresh the folder and it appears again.

What can be causing this problem? I know that nobody else is using it. What shouls I be looking for?

Thanks,

Maritza

All users must have permission to delete files within the directory that the db is located. Access will delete the .ldb file when the last person properly closes the db.

Also, the .ldb file will still exists if a user does not properly close the db. Crtl Alt Delete is a db killer.

You can open the .ldb file in Notepad to see who's computer was last in the db before the last time the .ldb was properly closed.

I've had a lot of problems with this as well. One thing that helps is to look in the .ldb file and see what computers are still listed there. Once I figure that out, a lot of times going to their computer and logging them out of Windows will get them out.

That works 'most' of the time. I would still like to see a more solid solution to users getting locked out because of the .ldb file.

This db should be able to tell you what users are CURRENTLY in the database. Just open the form, search for the access file you want to look at and retrieve the info. That simple. It uses JET userlists to find users.

The problem with all our answers is that it will give you the computer name... and unless you have a way of knowing who is using that computer.... or where the computer is.. you're still going to be frustrated :)
