Re: favorite comedians

He was OK though a bit controversial when he became "Geraldine." Back then, some folks thought that cross-dressers would be consigned to some lower level of Hell. Of course, they forgot Milton...

Re: Software so smart it's stupid

I'm not worried. I recall from a long time ago a little pithy adage from one of my computer classes - and it is as true today as it was 40 years ago: Artificial intelligence cannot cope with...

Re: Software so smart it's stupid

Adam, anyone can code once they become literate. The question is how WELL do they code? But learning to code helps people to learn the incredibly important skill of organizing their thoughts. ...

Re: Software so smart it's stupid

Adam, the implication of that question is they want to keep out people who are not smart enough to use the site?

MY point is that a computer didn't design that question. Do you honestly think...

Re: favorite comedians

Col, we agree. Bob Hope was ALL about comic timing and gentle humor. A USA comic like that was Richard "Red" Skelton.

Re: Merry Christmas everyone!

Col,

Here in the USA, we have the Hallmark channel. I'm sorry (for more than one reason) to have to inform you that with the movies produced for that particular channel, it's almost NEVER over...

Re: Uploading Access Database to Sharepoint

Ah, I see your point, Sonic8. And that better explains the articles I read about delays in synchronization leading to temporarily divergent data between the master list and local replicas.

A bit of a tease, but you have to admit you opened the door on that one yourself.

Re: favorite comedians

Dennis Miller always struck me as limited because of his out-of-the-blue "blue" stuff. He's a shock-jock. I've always enjoyed Sinbad. His live shows are very clean. He can be funny without being...

Re: Uploading Access Database to Sharepoint

Sonic8, from the articles I've seen, that type of connection is not being played up as much because it still isn't very reliable. And my comments about WANs vs. LANs are not incompatible with the...

Re: Database Size, Table Back End, Compact and Repair

Oh, I missed that implication. Interesting catch, CJ.

Saying you do a C&R on "the front end" implies one of two things. Either (a) everyone runs the FE from the shared folder which is why there...

Re: realistic dreams

Uncle G, I have a phobia to this day. I can go to the med lab and give blood samples for testing - but don't show me the needle.

When I was a kid, about 6 years old I think, I had tonsillitis SO...

What branch of the government did you say you worked for? Sounds like a typical week for me as a Navy contractor.

Re: How to make it blank?

Don't worry about mistakes. We ALL make them and learn a lesson by fixing them. Besides, you DO know the meaning of the word 'experience' don't you?

Experience is the ability to recognize your...

Re: Uploading Access Database to Sharepoint

Having anything of Access "truly" on the web will not work. This has to do with the protocols that you must use for Access to access its data. Connections normally have to be made using SMB (Server...

Adam, I have to thank you.

Before you came along, folks thought I was the only one to brutally beat dead horses. Now, at least they have a comparison.

Re: Database Size, Table Back End, Compact and Repair

The practical limits for Access are such that 5 or 6 users online at once isn't usually the issue. I've had more than that on a bigger database.

The issue is not how many users are doing...

Re: Uploading Access Database to Sharepoint

When asking whether Sharepoint can be used in place of a LAN, the general answer is "Not without some work, and in any case, there are some reliability issues." In this forum, you can do a SEARCH...

Re: Writing SQL to open a recordset, then it VBA gets confused...

I'll be more specific. In the context of manually running the SQL via, say, the Immediate Window, you are running something in the Access GUI. However, once you are talking about SQL actually...

Re: Writing SQL to open a recordset, then it VBA gets confused...

That is SQL's way of saying that the first field in (I guess in this case) a SELECT is unknown or not located where you think it is located. Check spelling first.

Re: realistic dreams

Misinterpreted my comments, Adam. Anxiety is FEAR. You have never had a bad result - but under pressure you FEAR having a bad result. No matter how confident we might feel, there is always that...
