Re: mixed up forms

the initial placing of the controls was probably not pasting. When placing new controls you should select the page first (gets an orange frame around it), then select the control from the ribbon and...

Re: Date() as year only

Where/how would you make us of just the year value? If in a form or report, the control can show just the year, or month, or day using the entire date in table field. If you need to see the year...

Re: Dsum Not Working

99% of the time I used the eject utility, not knowing if it was really necessary. I think I will make it 100% of the time now!

Re: USA Holiday - Father's Day

@Tera - I know what you're talking about.

Don't mistake that for "I know what you're feeling" because no one can when they say that.

I think many of the best fathers feel inadequate in one...

Re: Progress Bar in MS Access

The potential problem with recordset count is that it can behave in one fashion for DAO and in anoither for ADO. An ADO recordset count can return a value of -1 Thus > 0 is not a foolproof test (or...

Re: USA Holiday - Father's Day

Thank you for that wonderful message.
As the father of 4 boys and grandfather to 6, I see Fathers Day as the one day set aside to honor those who tried their best, regardless of how poor of a job...

Re: Right(trim etc not returning expected result

As long as anyone who uses those methods realizes that it will strip out anything that doesn't belong in what you might consider the standard English set then OK. Anyone with keyboards that use other...

Re: Right(trim etc not returning expected result

Why? That isn't a hidden character, right? It's the number 1?

Re: Right(trim etc not returning expected result

For me, depends on whether or not your query data should ever have carriage return or line feed characters. If yes, then I have no idea. If not, then I would probably examine the records for any...

Re: Right(trim etc not returning expected result

just tested a short text field (not rtf format) with

dog
cat

Mid 3,4 returns g
Mid 4, 4 returns what looks like an empty string
Asc(Mid 4,4) returns 13
Obviously I left out the field &...

Re: Right(trim etc not returning expected result

Maybe it's an rtf field and there are trailing non-printable characters. Trim would ignore them but Right would probably count them.

Re: Need Help With Layout and Getting Data on One Document

Ended my Australian/New Zealand cruise in Perth (best vacation EVER). Regrettably was only able to spend 1 day there but got to see some interesting sites nonetheless.

Re: Progress Bar in MS Access

With respect to your code I'd say that is sort of my point. The code shouldn't balk regardless if the reason is that there's no table data, or there is but the recordset is empty. A recordset may get...

An experienced code writer has to be very confident indeed that there are records to move last to without ever checking if the recordset has any records...

Re: Validation For Form

How did we go from "3 controls are bound" to none are bound?

Unbound controls still have a Before Update event, yes? So with some bound and some not, either event could be used, I think.

This...

Re: only allow correct data input

Please, let's not divert the thread into a debate about features. I didn't use the word "feature". Whether it's automatic because it's a "feature" of Access, or whether you code it for a combo, or...

Re: only allow correct data input

FAYT isn't really the same thing is it? As you type, you modify the row source which means the list is no longer 4000 items. I was referring to a list where the row source provides that many list...

Re: Validation For Form

Depends. Bascialy you can write a bunch of If statements or a loop through those controls. If there are or will be more of them in the future, they could be included in the loop but that could be...

Re: only allow correct data input

IMHO, depends on how many choices. 1,000? That's too many for a combo. Cascading combos might take care of that. If your lookup isn't working, it probably isn't filtered correctly, or isn't at all,...

Re: Linked Combo Boxes with drop down lists.

Further to that, if your data is like

Country | City
England | Edmonton
England | York
Canada| Edmonton
Canada | York

it wasn't the best way to set it up but you can still do cascading...

Re: Report that prompts ID number, and then creates report based on that ID(s)

As noted there, it's allowed. Declaring it with a link to the other post (both ways) is acceptable practice I think. However, I'm not going to extrapolate on the whole subject. Mr Excel called me out...

Re: Problem when editing date in a form.

Assuming form controls are bound, if you can edit a record and commit the change in some other fashion (without the button) successfully then the place to start looking would be the button code....
