Re: IFF dosn't work

Did you do what Colin suggested and remove the quotes around the numeric value?

Strings are delimited with single or double quotes
Dates are delimited with pound signs (#)
Numbers use NO...

Re: Unviersal link to table

Here's a database with a form that shows a method for letting the users do their own relinking without using the linked tables manager.

Re: If i call another AfterUpdate i get a 3075 error

There are better ways to do this. I've attached a sample database that shows a better solution.

Re: Write Errors

Having two forms bound to the same record open concurrently can be problematic if you do not understand what you are doing. Usually this happens when you have a list form and a details form. You...

Re: Reflexive table and the usual message : You can not add or change record because.

If you make the parent field required, it CANNOT be null. Never under any conditions would a non-null value be valid if a related record does not exist. Therefore record #0 must ALREADY exist in...

Re: Reflexive table and the usual message : You can not add or change record because.

You might want to point out to the client that making separate rules for dams and sires doubles the requirements you have to model and that will greatly increase the cost. You might even need to...

Re: How do you work on a client's local db remotely?

If the FE is linked to sharepoint lists, that is fine. Very few would choose to use SharePoint as the bE for Access, but technically, it will work. The way you said it "using the BE on Sharepoint"...

Re: Hold backspace action

The problem is that when you type in a control and backspace to "remove" the text, you end up with a ZLS rather than null. Esc is the only way to actually empty the field. So, you will have to take...

Re: Validating data in one field based on data in another field

I'm going to go with Cronk. It is ALWAYS better to do it right. And "right" in this case is to use three separate fields for the dimensions. You can add the type field to aid with validation.

Re: Accounting Database Tables & Structure

I don't know if it is still available but there used to be a product called:
"Yes I can run my business"
The product was Access based and you could purchase it as a run time or with source code. ...

Re: How do you work on a client's local db remotely?

You're welcome. Hope you get the idea of how it works. I built the relink form because the built in linked tables manager is extremely difficult to use when you have multiple BE databases which I...

Re: Code Generators

You can't get around the grunt work of defining the schema. There is nothing magical about that. You and the user need to decide what data you need to track and come up with some concept of how...

Re: Relate one field to multiple fields

When an assembly has more than one part, there will be additional rows. One for each pair-
AssemblyID1 - part1
AssemblyID1 - part2
AssemblyID1 - part3
AssemblyID1 - part4
AssemblyID2 - part1...

Re: How do you work on a client's local db remotely?

frmCheckLinks is the form you will need to modify to check your own linked table. It is the startup form and opens the login form if the tested table is valid or the relink form if it is not.

Re: Need help Access 2002 mdb file .

The owner of this website offers a service to get into a locked database. You will need to prove ownership somehow.

Re: How do you work on a client's local db remotely?

I also have the FE test a linked table on startup. If the query fails, I bring up the relink dialog and allow the user to navigate to the new location. Otherwise the app just opens. Let me know if...

Re: Dealing with marked records and multiple users

I understand the plan. That doesn't mean you might not need to issue a FE update when the user is in the middle of doing something. A third option is to put this particular table into a separate...

Re: Dealing with marked records and multiple users

I agree with your initial thought.
One BE table with rows identified using UserID + recordID. You could date these records to help identify old stuff but I would not put this table in the FE...

Re: Relate one field to multiple fields

I just noticed that tblAssemblyItems is not correctly defined. There MUST be a unique primary key. This is a combosite key and will be Assembly_FK + Part_FK. To do this, open the table in design...

Re: Relate one field to multiple fields

tblParts is the part master. It must include EVERY detail part. Part # 141 is missing from tblParts and that is what is causing the issue. Once you add that part to tblParts, you will be able to...

Re: Relate one field to multiple fields

Building a structure that supports only assemblies with two parts is very shortsighted. There is no reason to do it. It doesn't simplify anything and should your business change, it could be an...

Should be

Re: Set a group of controls as visible/hidden, enabled/disabled or locked/unlocked

When you have large groups of controls that should be visible/hidden, locked/unlocked as a group, consider using a tabbed form. That doesn't require any code.
