Re: Reaching Data Limit, Multiple Back Ends? Good Idea or Not?

For myself, I'd go with Gasman's solution. In your database you save the full path and filename for each attachment. If you are hitting close to 2gb/month, I'd suggest making the path include the...

Re: Adding a 'dummy' field to an historic database and updating it

Do you already have a query that returns all "Incidents" for a given case and another that lists only the cases (the "A"s)?

If yes, looks like you've already got what you need. If not, I'd...

Re: why do IT people insist on internet communication?

Re: why do IT people insist on internet communication?

Except most women will look you in the eye and answer "YES". Probably not the same answer they are expecting with their outfit.

Then again if your hat said "Hold my beer", that probably answers...

Re: limit number of records in subform base on a field select on MainForm

How you normally set up the data would be Customer - Purchase Order - Line item.

Customer is the parent. Purchase Orders are on a subform for the parent. Line items are on a subform under the...

Re: limit number of records in subform base on a field select on MainForm

beti,

If the user enters a quantity of 3, then adds 3 records, what do you do IF they change quantity to 2? Do you delete the last record? Do you prevent them from changing quantity?

Re: Multivalue combobox does not show all values in subform

Personally I've found it to be easier in the long run to not use multi-value fields. How big of an issue would it be for you to have your "Values" be in their own table then create linking records to...

Re: Could use a mentor...

What I am surprised by is anyone thinking that 20 minutes is enough time to get complete answers on a forum. There are two year olds with more patience.

Re: Lookup Fields are evil? Or is this ok? Need a little guidance

One special note about using lookups in ACCESS; you will often want to base them on a query rather than the underlying table. This means you can create queries that return just the subset that is...

Re: why do IT people insist on internet communication?

@ OP,

Re: Access Database Design

Rule of thumb I use is "Can I clearly identify what each object is used for". If you find you have objects that you can't tell what they are for/if used, you should start verifying what is or isn't...

Re: Today's date in a calculated field

bk1010,

One other aspect others have not touched on regarding calculated fields; they are calculated when the record is added/updated. They don't "Magically" change if the record is not touched. ...

Re: Calculated textbox not recalculating, refreshing, or updating

For myself, in the after accept for both fd1 and fd2, I'd have put your
me.total = me.fd1 + me.fd2
Is this what you are doing? Or do you have this some place else?

The women who seem least accepting of a trans-woman tend to be involved in athletic competitions. Their argument, backed by biology, is that a body that has grown to maturity as a male will have many...

Re: The pitfalls of VBA proficiency

My first question is always "Will this be what I need or will I have to prepare for expansion later?" If it is something I KNOW I will need to expand upon, I plan how that will work first....

Re: Looking for advice on migrating to Cloud

Something to remember about "Cloud" storage; your data still resides on a server (or servers), but they are often no longer under your direct control. This may require a rework of your local network...

Re: Appending Table with a Picture

NancyR,

One of the other reasons most of us recommend keeping attachments as a path to the file is because of how difficult it is to update/keep the current attachment straight when you try to...
