This is another odd question that I think is not possible, but have to ask.
I am going to try and leave out as much info as i can to keep this short.

In Mainform , I have List Sub Form and Detail Sub Form
both subs are in continuous form view
List form changes from week to week and can have 1 - 20 records
Detail form has data based on list form and can have 4 - 80 records

I want to color the backgrounds so that it is easier to read.

#1 Is there anyway to color the list form each record a different background.
#2 Can I then color the detail form so each matching [po number] and [part name] records have the same background color.

Five minuets after I made post I thought of a crude way to do this.

I added another field called setcolor to the table for the list form
which does translate to the detail data form
and then put that field in the back and stretched it out and used conditional formatting on it.
liek i said crude but it works.

I think your original thought is correct.
Even if it were possible, how would you define all the different colours?
And what would happen each time a new record was added?

As I'm sure you are aware you can:
a) colour alternate rows
b) use conditional formatting to do lots of things
c) add other colour effects - see the link in my signature line
d) add colour formatting by pre-defined category
e.g. I use this for colour formatting calendar events

BTW: if I'm wrong & it does turn out to be possible the way you describe, I think it will look hideous

My force it to work method does function, I only have 6 color options right now,
and its not hideous. I was going to post a pic but I dont have a way to link it.

man, i just needed to scroll down and read. i'm better than that, thanks.
i was just looking at the quick link picture icon above.

.... anyways it is a bit clunky for now but our people pay attention to gaudy
coloring like this a lot better.
