I also thought about that but the other tabs are unrelated to the forum so I didn't think it was possible

Yes Colin, that looks good. But I want to reduce the amount of scrolling people have to do to get to content. So, with this in mind, I want to put the tabs to the right.

Google favours sites with more content above the fold so I will be interested to see if they give us any search engine love.

The format of your tabs is better than what we currently have here.

Good point. I thought it was still a bit clunky myself. Perhaps more like this?

Might need a bit darker grey text on the logo as well

Yes, that kind of thing. But lining things up and being able to remove the space just below the logo is harder than you think!

Incidentally, does the forum seem any faster or slower? My host migrated to a new server recently, causing me all sorts of stress and problems behind the scenes. Just wondered if there is any tangible benefit.

I believe you about placement - even doing it in Word as I did was a PITA
I'll happily leave you to do the web version...

The site seems noticeably slower today but that may just be my broadband

P.S. Was the new server responsible for the 6 hours downtime on Saturday and losing all posts from that morning??

I thought it was running really quick first thing this morning.

Not so sure now, but I do have 3 Access databases, a SSMS session, Remote Desktop session and a 250,000 line excel spreadsheet open all at the same time...

I only found out that they migrated everything today, when I discovered my email was down for another site, and all sorts of other issues. I pay a lot of money for this host but they do **** things up a lot.

I'm getting over a second delay on each click this afternoon - other websites seem fine. Just ran a network speed test - 64.4Mbps which is normal for here

Is this one second delay common or unusual?

For info, I'm getting a 3-5 second delay on everything I click today
Opening a post, sending a post, clicking a menu item etc

I am having real problems with my host. I have various email accounts not working properly. My other sites have slowed to a crawl. I've been on support for over 2 hours in the last 2 days just trying to get things sorted and they just seem to deny everything and not answer my questions. Not happy.

Yup - I agree - much quicker response than yesterday.

Is it now faster than it ever used to be or just back to normal?

I'd say it is probably faster than I've ever known it.

I do have a shiny new more powerful laptop, and a better network connection than before so I'm guessing these will also influence my perception of things.

Unfortunately, I don't have a shiny new laptop but also think its about as fast as I've ever known it to be

They have migrated to a newer server, so perhaps it is that. However, who knows if they start to overload it with other sites in the future.

Enjoy it while you can!
