Win 7 icons (1 Viewer)

I have a friend that asked me to show him how to change the icons on his desk top (win7). When I right click > properties the properties dialog box doesn’t have a change icon option on a lot of his icons. Anybody have an idea what is causing this.

are you logged on with admin permissions?

yes, and some icons had the change icon option, but others did not.

This was on a friends computer and I don't have it in front of me at the moment. Next time I have to bail him out on something I will make a note of which ones.

I have I hve seen someone did something similar. but i didn't bother too much cause i think it is a bit too fancy

It could be the old Microsoft knows best option, is the program an Office program? or any other Microsoft product? If so try creating a new shortcut to the same location and trying the change icon option from that shortcut then delete the old one.

(In fact try this even if it's not a Microsoft product and post back if it doesn't work)

Thanks for answering, but I no longer hve access tu my friends computer, so I can't try anything. My three puters never has that problem.
