Try Continuous Forms instead. They allow Alternative Row Colours and are more flexible to format that the straight-laced grid.

The conventional rent and subform scenario can be resolved by creating a query bottom up and the Parent information in the Header/Footer and the subform data in the Detail.

Only issue is that I can't center a tickbox.

I would suggest that anyone considering the above call to abandon Datasheets weigh ALL pros and cons - column sorting and filtering (shortcut menus), cut/paste rows between Access datasheet and Excel, letting users move/expand/hide columns, increase/shrink row height, (alternative row colors that ARE available), subdatasheets ...

What I do for check boxes in continuous forms is to use a text box set to the Wingdings font. Then for the control source I use:

=IIf(<True condition>,Chr(252),"")

Chr(252) in Wingdings will give you a check mark. You can set the border to solid and size it to be nicely centred :)

So they are editable!

The other thing is I can now, at last, put images into Continuous Forms.
