Yes that's equally obvious as, in my view, was the original riddle....

What's less obvious (to me anyway) is whether some responses to the post have deliberately missed the point or haven't understood

I think its been deliberate.

Similar to asking the question:

Which taxi are you more likely to have dispatched to you? A Taco or a Taco with cheese?

The answers make no sense in context (if you understand the original query) so neither answer is actually correct. So yes poking fun at it is probably where this thread has gone.

The problem with a theoretical logic problem is that in today's world of too many darned specialists, asking for a plumber WILL likely result in you getting a plumber who needs an accountant to handle the exorbitant amounts of money he will charge you.

Doc,

Sure the PLUMBER needs the ACCOUNTANT, but you wouldn't be talking to someone who's paid that much if you need to schedule the plumber to come see you. You'd be talking to a receptionist who's paid a pittance (half a pittance after tax) rather that an accountant who's billing dozens of pittances per hour!

reminds me of the old Russian joke about a comrade who had saved up enough money to buy a car. So off he went to the showroom and ordered his car. The salesman did all the paperwork, looked up and said 'great, the car should be ready for you on the 25th April 2021'. The comrade looked a bit down and said - hmmm, can you make it the 26th, I've got the plumber coming on the 25th...

CJ, it's still funny - but it was a crib from a Ronald Reagan speech.

I like AccessBlaster’s idea. The original post reminds me of the type of questions we would get asked at school when they were trying to develop of anyalytical skills and broaden our horizons.

Didn’t work so well on some of us...

I would try this on either of my young-adult daughters but I want to avoid the disappointment and dismay I would feel from their blank stares...

That one reminds me of the one where a guy is going through some old boxes in the attic and he finds a repair ticket for some shoes he had forgotten about for 10 years at least. But he figures wtf and the next day he goes to the shoemaker shop. He walks in and puts the ticket down on the counter. The old cobbler looks at the ticket and takes it into the back. He comes back out in 5 minutes.

Guy: Well, do you have the shoes?

Cobbler: They will be ready next Wednesday.

If someone is a plumber AND accountant, they are a subset of all accountants. They are also the exact same set as people who are accountants and plumbers. The order of terms does not logically indicate priority.

A Venn diagram would be useful but you’ll have to imagine it.

One circle includes accountants. Another, separate circle, includes plumbers. Where they overlap (which is necessarily a smaller area than either individual circle) includes those who are both plumbers AND. accountants. This is a subset of either of the two circles.

It is impossible to be a member of a subset w/o being a member of the set (circle), but the reverse is definitely possible. Therefore it is mathematically proven that A is more likely than B.

Ah, I get it now... Yes A will always be the answer as to which is Most Likely..
