Looking at help for this error says "You tried to access a database that is in an outdated format. Compact the database and then try the operation again."

How can you compact it if it can't open it ? Or - does it mean compact it in the older Access Version ?

Thanks

Hi. Good question. Probably the last one. What version made it?

Is it an old MDB or ADP file? Or an MDE / ACCDE file created in an earlier version?
Do you still have the earlier version of Access it was created in?

Unless its an ACCDE or MDE file, you could try DECOMPILING it then see if it allow you to compact. Or hold the shift key down then compact.

Thank you both for replies. I got it sorted. They were created in a Access 2000 or earlier and had been okay until a new update. Access 2003 allowed me to convert them and they're okay now in the new Access. They're no longer needed but there were linked tables that referenced them. Bit of maintenance needed I think.
