Hi guys

I am a true novice to aspx or asp. Wanted to try my hand on it so that i can link to mdb later on.

I install iis v6 on a winxp.sp3 pc. According to the services iis admin is started and in iis manager default website is running. However using firefox to browse aspx or asp file in the default iishelp folder shows no processing of the line <%Response.Write(Now())%>.

Next I tried to place these aspx files in newly created virtual directory alias eg IIS6Site with the physical directory as c:\iis6. Same result, no processing of the dynamic aspx.

What did i miss? I did not touch any settings in the virutal folders properties. Please help me to cross this first hurdle.

For sharing

I found the cause of the problem
The root directory for iis is in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot.

Once .asp in it, the server acts on the asp in browsing for iis 5.1.

Yet to check on iis 6 for .aspx. Do you think iis v6 will process .aspx?

Final word on this thread for xpwin.sp3 user who refuse to use new OS. It only has iis v5.1 thus will NEVER process a dynamic .aspx.

You will need to v7 + that comes with certain flavours of Vista or Win7.

Also virtual directory path must be stated in the address following \localhost in order to browse an .asp file.
