Hello.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium with Avast anti-virus.

I was getting DCOM exploit alerts, and now Trojan warnings from the new version of Avast. I'm surfing sites that I believe to be responsible.

Might DEP be creating these warnings (I think it stands for Data Execution Prevention)? Can I disable this feature?

Thanks for any advice, Andy.

And you're running it on an OS that is a living virus.

Yeah, so do I. Which is why I know it's a virus. DEP is one of my favorite virus features.

Avast was preventing me from reading my Yahoo e-mails. I un-installed it but even then I had to disable self-protection and uninstall from Safe mode.
I'm trying Windows Essentials - it has a small footprint and I like the icon!
(It has forced to me use Windows Update though, which I previously disabled because it crashed my computer once). Andy.

Bear in mind that at the end of the day you're not going to get top-end protection, however the protection that AVG offers is good for standard users. If you ever consider purchasing an anti-virus software, look into Sophos.
