Shrink detail section when subreport not visible (1 Viewer)

I am trying to create a report where the user can choose what appears in it. I thought I had to working at one point but it no longer does.

If the user doesn't want something to appear in the report, I set that particular subreport to visible=no. I enabled can shrink in the properties of the detail section. When I view the report, the subreport isn't visible, yet the space the subreport box took up will be still be there. How can I get the detail section to shrink and remove these gaps where invisible subreport are?

Also make sure to select the subform control (the control on the main form that HOUSES the subform) and set it's Can Shrink property to NO as well.

Wow I feel like an idiot. I have everything set up right, I just accidentally put the code to change the visibility in the on print even, rather than on format.
