This is a bit of an odd one but maybe someone can help.

My mother's laptop has "got stuck". She tried to download a large email via dialup but after taking so long, she shut it down mid-download. When she tried to start it up later, it came up with the background and a message saying something like "Windows is starting up" but nothing happens. My mother has tried running the battery down and restarting but it still comes up with the problem. It sounds like it has hibernated but I can't find out because I'm in the UK and my mother lives in S.Africa (hence the dial up!).

Does anyone have any ideas? I've suggested removing the battery but my mother doesn't know how to. It's a 6yr old Toshiba laptop and I don't know where the battery compartment is or if it can be removed easily.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers
