Generating a monthly report from a non access DB (1 Viewer)

I'm working on an old lotus approach database, trying to generate some monthly reports using access (because I know access a bit better, and it is much more customizable) and running in to problems. First off I want to say that I'm not intrested in converting the entire DB to access (forms and all)because this is not a huge database and not worth the effort to change their system.
I can create beautiful queries by just using the main database file, but I have not had luck generating reports based off of user input for the dates (because there is no forms to reference) is there a workaround for this or am I out of luck?

If you base your reports off of a query based off the main file (not sure if you are linking or importing), you should be able to specify Parameters there in the criteria fields.
