Project- Server connection issues (1 Viewer)

I am trying to make a new Access project to a pre-existing db on SQL Server. I can get the connection and all of that up an running but when I try to open anything in design view it says that I don't have exclusive access and I can't modify anything. When I try to go into Tools>Security it says database admin components failed to load , verify components are registered locally. Then another message pops up saying I must upgrade my SQL Enterprise Manager and SQL-DMO to SQL Server 2000 to connect to this server.

What is all of this business about? Is it saying that my Access 2000 is too far ahead of my SQL Server? Can I get around this upgrade?
