Seems that Giant Freakin Robot is keeping the memory of "Dark Star" alive. This is a really really low budget film. In concluding, Freakin Robot writes: "If you’ve never seen Dark Star, it is well worth your time, even today, because it’s an absolutely bonkers take on sci-fi that nails the exact tone they wanted. It’s streaming for free on Tubi, Pluto TV, Peacock, and The Roku Channel, and is also part of Amazon Prime." This movie made an appearance in the thread: ChatGPT: The Future of AI is Here!. So back in 1974, (50 years ago) we have a situation were one of the characters is arguing with an AI!!!
Seven months ago.

PS: Freakin Robot also had a review of Dune: Prophecy that was extremely blunt: "The first episode of Dune: Prophecy is available to stream now. I’ll be reviewing only that episode here because it’s the only one available, and the idea of suffering through another episode is intolerable." (emphasis added) I watched the first episode, I didn't think it was that horrendous. So I will suffer through a few more episodes in hopes that it gets better.

Dark Star started out as a college project for some students at USC. For instance, it was the first film directed by John Carpenter. It was written by Dan O'Bannon, a famous screen writer. John Landis (director of Michael Jackson's Thriller) influenced the progress of the film from its original format (16 mm) to the final production. Carpenter also scored the film and used a synthesizer for a lot of the music. It has reached cult status and shows signs of being one of those films that will never quite go away.
