Question How do I enter a % value in access

I want to enter percentage data to a commission Field (example 5% ). Each time I add the data and hit enter I end with 0.00 and no value. Is there some formatting that should be done before entering the data?

Set the format of your field in its properties page to show percentage.

Percentage fields are really flakey due to Microsoft being "helpful". It assumes that values below unity are being entered as fractional values while values above untity are assumed to be percentage. Excel does the same thing.

I avoid using percentage fields like the plague and store the value as a number which I treat as a percentage in the calculations.

the field has to be set as a double, not a long.

then just enter 5%, or 0.05
