Re: Payroll system in ms access

I am not sure where you are. If you are in the UK, I would not do this. Its not hard in principle, but the tax, NI and pension calculations, among other things are very difficult, and your...

Re: Purpose of System Tables

Most of the things Pat mentioned are available without going near system tables. I haven't checked for the third table, but I expect it's there as well.

PAT's table 1:
field type is an...

Re: Access without network server

None of this is trivially easy though.

A single user can use an Access solution on his own PC.

A system with multiple users requires a different solution. Each user needs access to (ie the...

It might be a genuine corruption, but it might also be this

Re: Purpose of System Tables

on a different tack, although some posters use system tables to retrieve data, I have never done so.

I have found it possible to obtain whatever I needed by interrogating the DAO structure, for...

Re: Deleting leading and trailing rows after/before import

This is instead of the import.

The problem is that docmd.transferspreadsheet, or docmd.transfertext is no good unless every row in the importfile has the same format.

When this isn't the case,...

Re: Input from memo field on form appears as characters in table

Chinese characters often indicate corruption. Low level corruption is just a bad field, although you may find you have to delete and re-enter the record, which is a pain if its related to other...

Re: Programmatically deleting all records in a table

I've found that "delete * from tblname" appears to be instantaneous. Maybe not for very big files but still very fast.

Opening a table, selecting all records and clicking delete takes a long...

Re: How to have control boxes default blank, without data entry property set to yes

it might be looping round because your tab order is not natural.

It may be writing a record at a point which doesn't correspond to the logical record end. That would probably produce the effect...

Re: Pasting data with autonumber

You can do this.

You can paste/insert an autonumber value in a query.

Of course if the number has been re-used, which is unlikely then it will fail, but the principle is OK.

Also, if you...

Re: WANTED: Old Access 95 file with password

What is interesting is the demo and explanation on Wayne Phillips "everythingaccess" site regarding his "code protector"

Basically an mde/accde leaves enough stuff behind that a decompiler can...

Re: Notes table, one or two?

Yes, that's what I meant. I generally add the date and user who added the added the comment, and the comment.

Re: Looping Recordset - won't process last record

How is your data structured?

is there more than one FixtureID for each game?
How do you store the multiple umpires in your table?

Re: Split text file only works once

I would add some error handling.

Maybe the openfile action works the first time, but not the second.
Out of interest, I don't see why you get -1 as a result rather than 0 for the ubound result,...

One other possibility is a recent issue which seemed to be the result of MS updates. It should have resolved itself by now, but you never know.

Re: How to make joined queries editable

non updateable queries are a real pain at times, and hard to deal with directly. We all have to find workarounds for some situations.

eg in some cases, we need a union query for data presentation...

Re: Forgot Database encrypted password

hopefully you get it back, but there is no real need to password protect a database.

Keep your database in an unprotected state, but compile the database to an mde/accde and release the mde/accde...

let's say you have a file with rows designated HEADER, and for each header you have multiple LINES.

Now you can't use a simple import to load a whole file like this, as the columns won't align...

Re: Notes table, one or two?

What I meant was a memo field provides a simple way of storing multiple comments within a single field. If you don't want to edit the comments, it might be as easy to do that, then to build and...

Re: How to protect my tables and queries in access from importing

I don't really understand the issues with a user getting at the tables.

In most commercial databases the developer will normally provide a way to reach the data tables - eg Sage ODBC Link. After...

Re: Notes table, one or two?

Late addition.

It still depends what you want to do with the notes.

You could have a vendor_notes memo field in the vendor table, and an item_notes memo field in the items table.

I often do...

However, the trouble comes when the second form hasn't been completed. What do you want to do then?

So a better...
