Re: Long Text

If you have a full word document and want to display it, there IS such a thing as adding bookmarks to the Word document and then learning how to open a Word Application object to that document,...

Re: Make code Shorter

In the picture attached to post #10, you have a syntax error that is so glaring I am surprised that nobody else caught this. I have enhanced the color of the culprit.

Re: Hello From Texas

No need to apologize! Everyone is different. We know that and know you need to learn our ways - but they are pretty informal.

Re: Hi from the UK

Terry, glad to have you aboard. I came into programming through the level of assembly language and machine / mechanical issues. That was in 1968, so it counts as being a bit of a while ago. But...

Re: Retrieve SQL Results

The only things that could be wrong with that DLookup are listed below, and I have annotated the cases regarding probability of the problem being in the named facet of this call.

1. [Category]...

Re: NZ Function Undefined (under certain conditions)

Having no personal experience with this split bitness version, I defer to our friend Colin's opinion on the right way to proceed.

Welcome, Cole, and don't worry about soliciting support. Just post away in the right topic and be patient. Since all of us are volunteers, we have to come online on our schedule, but we typically...

Re: append data from one database to another

If the homogeneous MAKE-TABLE + APPEND case would exceed 2 Gb, there is a danger that you have more than 1 Gb of data in the four quarterly tables. Working with tables this large is possible with...

Re: NZ Function Undefined (under certain conditions)

You should be using the 32-bit app if that is the app under which the front-end was developed. I'm not sure that a "pure" BE file even CARES about the bitness of Access (if it has no local modules,...

Re: Long Text

Truncation occurs when you use some functions that have limits. Is there a way for you to count characters in the result? Because if the count is exactly 255, you used something that is valid only...

Re: setFocus multiple times

For what it is worth, you are not the only person reporting this error, which is #2110. In English, the text is "Microsoft Access can't move the focus to the control xxxx". For future reference,...

Re: Invalid Syntax - Nz Formula

Because this formula requires so much in the way of pre-checking, this is wrong on multiple counts.

First, you are guaranteed further failure because you are dividing by something that will be...

Re: Retrieve SQL Results

Actually, Tera and lhooker, you would use:

Dlookup("Category","[Sales Tax Table]","[Company Name]= '" & Me.Name_Choose & "'")

That is, presuming that [Company Name] is a field of [Sales Tax...

Re: using excel vba to extract figures from access report

Obviously, Step 1 must be done manually because Access VBA isn't available until after you run Access and give it a context in which to operate.
Step 2 is doable via DoCmd.OutputTo for a report...

Re: Using Access as FE and external database BE - queries performance

To amplify/clarify Paul's comment,...

If you create a query that CAN be passed back to the BE, that is what will happen. BUT if you have a query that contains a function defined in the FE, the BE...

Re: How to Check if a database is open and close it if it is?

The way I used, the test was performed by the app's Opening Form .OnOpen routine, which CAN see data - it just can't do anything with controls on that form.

I put a string constant equal to the...

Re: using excel vba to extract figures from access report

What I don't understand is, if you have to trigger this report from Access before you can do this analysis, why don't you write a query that looks similar to the one driving the report and just...

Re: Using Access as FE and external database BE - queries performance

Actually, on this fine point, the space taken by a query is just a list of pointers used for data retrieval, nothing else. A query is NOT a temporary table.

Having said that, there is nothing...

Re: How to Check if a database is open and close it if it is?

Re: How to Check if a database is open and close it if it is?

Yet another approach: In my case, the auto-updater violated certain rules arbitrarily, capriciously, and totally mistakenly imposed by the local security supervisor. (Of course, he saw it...

Re: How to Check if a database is open and close it if it is?

I'm with Colin on this one. Forcibly closing a database externally can leave tables partly updated and thus inconsistent. If your database cannot close itself, there is a SERIOUS risk in forcing it...
