Then it will open ANY file via its extension....
.pdf files will open in acrobat,
.doc files in word
etc

you dont have to add these. Access can run them all without Dim or Option explicit.
You would only need to add them IF the code is not working, where youd need to track down the cause. THEN Option...

when you do an updgrade the references are lost due to the new versions.....

why go outside the database to come back into the same database?

use a bound form , thats what theyre for.

if date, then you can use MAX, but it takes 2 queries and you only want 2 fields

put it in a query and run it.
Try to use queries instead of sql. (for just that reason)

somewhere in your data connections is the connection to the database (and thus, the query)

application.quit does work...but you dont need it in the function,
put it in the autoexec AFTER your function.

if you didnt open it in vb, you cant close it, what window is it in?
what if there are many pdfs open, what pdf is it?

The error itself tells you to close it.
