Re: Date() as year only

Access can easily hold hundreds of thousands of records. I have had Access databases with several million records and still performing well.

Databases are designed to be able to do this very...

Re: Date() as year only

Presumably the matches also have a PlayedDate field. This is sufficient to know which year they were played without adding another field.

This data could all be in the same table in the same...

Re: Date() as year only

Are you sure you need to archive? I assume you are not working with millions of records.

It is very easy to keep all the data in place and adjust queries to only work with a specified year.

Re: mixed up forms

I've seen this before but it was years ago so struggling to remember.

I think think it might have that the first tab page had a transparent background so the second page could be seen through it.

Re: Join with more than 15 fields

You can do it manually in Access but give it half a chance and it will scramble it all again.

When I have a complex query in Access SQL I tack a UNION to a dummy table onto the end. Access...

Re: Join with more than 15 fields

You are battling with some horrible source data that doesn't include a key.

You have done all you can do and I am surprised it doesn't break already. Be thankful rather than question why it works....

Re: Sum field in subform

You are trying to sum a control, NOT a field.

The data you are trying to Sum is on the form which is part of the Project, not part of the Database, so the engine has no access to it.

Re: Join with more than 15 fields

You don't have more than 15 joins. Instead you have one incredibly complex join that suggests an inappropriate data structure.

Re: Lock Fields on Form and Subform Based On One Field Value

I would suggest you consider another line of work if you think this simple task is too difficult to attempt yourself. You won't learn anything by getting someone to do it for you. Nor will it bring...

Re: Sum field in subform

June pointed out the problem in the first reply. Aggregate functions ONLY work on fields in the form's recordset. Controls cannot be summed.

Re: multi field lookup

Sounds like it is a classic Cascading Combo structure.

You would need to requery the combo on the Current Event to change its Row Source.

Re: Entity Attribute Value Model

Have a look at the sample database in post #3 of this thread (https://access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=287096).

It shows how to make a subform show virtual records from a list of...

I have a store of about 1.2 million documents in SQL Server. They are retrieved through an ASP application and reconstituted on the server before downloading. Never tried via Access.

If you have a...

Re: Expressions to extract portion of a text string in Access

BTW The first parameter of InStr() is optional.

AFAIK it is the only function where an optional parameter is not after all required parameters.

I have occasionally contemplated how the...

Re: Expressions to extract portion of a text string in Access

Another variation is to concatenate the search string to the end of the expression that is being searched in case it isn't contained in the searched expression.

I use this where there is an...

Re: Convert Dates / Sorting

Your first sort isn't natively supported so you would be deriving another field just to sort it like that. Then the field for the modified date.

Your sort will be slow because every record will...

You find these videos because they are what you are looking for and you do not seek out the actual science at all. Then you fail to apply any critical analysis to the claims.

"Climategate" was...

You demonstrate your lack of comprehension of scale. In absolute terms it isn't "such a major effect". It is only large in biological terms.

The one degree Celsius increase in global temperature...
