Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

Yes that sounds about right.

As a rule I tend to build continuous sub forms that imitate a datasheet, rather than using that as the default, you'll find it gives you a lot more control.

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

This is normally handled by a form and sub form. The main form is for your "order header" and the sub form has the order lines in it.

Re: Delete query wont execute

The @@Identity part of the code returns the PK ID of the inserted record, handy if you need to refer to it after a new record is added.

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

Absolutely that is how you do it. Make the combo box record source a query with your staff table in it. Select the Staff ID as the first column, Name / initials as columns 2 and 3. Sort by Name...

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

The StaffID is guaranteed to be unique and would be the field I would link on. Initial letters may well be duplicated, or reused if staff change.

You can bring in the Names and or Initials on a...

Re: How do I "tag" along a combo box field ?

The second column of the combo can be used using VBA in the after update of the combo

Me.yourtxtBox = Me.YourCombo.Column(1)

Column numbering starts at 0 , so this would pull the second column.

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

That sounds like you have grasped the basic design idea pretty well.

Essentially top level data for Staff, Jobs And Budgets. Then related data tables where those are brought together.

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

"Well Mr Holmes, looks like you were right again" said Mr Watson... ;)

Just to demonstrate why this is a poor idea, in Access try adding up the total staff hours.
Then add staff member 8 to the...

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

Looking at your screen shot I have a suspicion that your aren't storing your data correctly, and have committed "Spreadsheet-itis" in your table design...

This will lead to horrible issues later I...

Re: add weekdays in query

You will have to resort to some VBA, have a look at the thread linked at the bottom of this thread for some starters.

Do you also want to account for Holidays as well?

Re: How to populate a text box and field based on combo box value?

Pull those values into the combo box row source as hidden columns.

You can then refer to them in the after update code of the combo box to set other control values on your form, something like
