How to normalize contacts in Access

As I said, I was just answering a question that another forum member asked. Sorry that bothered you. But since you've been in data processing and around computers for far longer than me, none of what I wrote should be a gray wall to you, as I saw the same ideas implemented by dozens of...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

That's odd, the first thing I did was click on the message. We must have telepathic abilities! I dug through the links, it arrives at a window about a Microsoft Security Certificate. Surely Microsoft knows how to do a certificate for their own products. Again I can't copy, or seem to get back to...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

I used "ping" in a general way. It's quite clear from the Microsoft Security system that the culprit is Access, see what's in post #16. I have never found much useful information in those messages, compounded by the fact that Windows doesn't allow one to copy the text or take a snapshot of the...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

To follow up on a new day, hopefully a better one with Access, some new observations. This is a fairly new laptop, with Windows 10, all updates and a new install of Office Pro 2021. That said, there was some old Office stuff that came on the laptop from HP. I've done my best to uninstall the old...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

I may have found one cause. After working in Access I tried to go to Outlook, it was hung with an hour glass. Then I went back to Access, and it was hung too, and I see this... What is Access trying to do to Outlook that hangs them both?

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

Yep, been doing most of those things (decompile, compact & repair, etc. I'll check out what auto correct is supposed to do, and turn it off. Thanks!

How to normalize contacts in Access

Sorry, my original post was 9 paragraphs, several of those just one liners though. I don't think the question was about any of the things you listed. They weren't my topic.

How to normalize contacts in Access

What makes you think I haven't tried lots of suggestions the past few weeks? Do you have a spy camera in my office? Of course, I can't try all of the suggestions, as some don't fit my situation. As I said earlier, I tried to post what I know works from past experience, despite the assurance...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

If by timers you mean pauses like this: Call mySleep(1, True) --- Public Sub mySleep(Optional Seconds As Double = 1, Optional AllowDoEvents As Boolean = True) ' this function will break up seconds into quarters of a second Dim SecFrac As Double On Error GoTo ErrCd SecFrac = 0 While...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

No auto correct, no second monitors. Have done decompiling and exports to a new db. Same problem. The last line is a good clue, kinda silly though seeing as Access drops into the code on an error while in the form view, and supposedly allows for rewrite and continued execution. I'll keep an eye...

How to normalize contacts in Access

I am learning the Access "tool" (again for like the third time), and it's limitations. The limitations proved too much in the past, I'm trying yet again. Hence my questions here. Everyone starts from some prior experience. I'm sorry you don't like my explaining what I want to do with past...

Nope it's Windows 10 all updates and Access updates applied.

How to normalize contacts in Access

Did you miss the part where I said we had to do both, in at least two different posts? Both means both, as in two. Or do you like to use partial snips of a conversation to try and prove your correctness? George I've understood the difference for over forty years now. However, I do not understand...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

Let me clarify. Access is running on a stand-alone laptop, not with any other user or a backend. I'm just creating tables and changing/adding field names as I go. I created three reports in the database that keeps failing. I did use some old code for multi-language, it loops through all the db...

How to normalize contacts in Access

Now there's a question I can answer with fact despite George's objections. Back in the 70s and 80s when mainframes and super minis roamed the dp departments (or rather the departments roamed around these pizza ovens), there was a thing called shared computing. This means companies often joined...

A bad day with Access, is it only me?

The last 24 hours have been hell day with Access 2021. I had burps, crashes, and contaminated data and tables, queries and forms. In multiple dbs. It all reminds me of my first experience with Access almost thirty years ago, when I first walked away from it. Maybe I'm doing things all wrong...

How to normalize contacts in Access

I may be confusing this thread with one where I asked about running a split be at remote locations. Please forgive.

How to normalize contacts in Access

Then how is it possible that true = -1? I'm pretty sure my old MS manual is confusing field type of yes/no with the VBA "compatible Access Basic data type" in the explanation. They don't show the actual size used in Access. And my F1 on the topic in Access goes off into Wonderland. Whatever...

How to normalize contacts in Access

Hi George, the problem is, everyone thinks that databases started with SQL or Access. Forty years ago we had to write our own from scratch, with the idea of distribution in mind. My business partner Ted took about a month to write the code. It worked great. I can't provide a link, as this was...

How to normalize contacts in Access

No, they don't ask for the PIN over the phone. They ask for it In lieu of a password! On their web page. The account manager seemed very uncertain when I said this is a horrible security practice, like there was no other option than a PIN.
