wouldn't it be easier to just have a "solved my problem" option in the "thread tools" dropdown? then there can be a star icon or something next to the thread when you're searching for posts.
in terms of the working solution not being the best solution: with 'solved' posts being flagged, more people will look at it, and hopefully more gurus who hopefully may right a badly err'd solution...?
i looked at whether there was a solved option in one of my threads. i know it would have been very helpful for me in my searches to find a solved post. maybe to make more people participate, the option could be displayed somewhere more obvious: like next to the "post reply" button, you could have "solved" or something - and even better - when this option is checked, have the forum automatically put in its own post saying something like "user x marked this problem solved on 2008-09-15 15:66"... then if more people come to elaborate, we'll see at which point it had evolved.
