Another child-hood idol is gone. RIP Tom Petty...

He was a frequent headliner at the Louisiana Jazz and Heritage Festival. I was not a fan but not due to dislike of his music; I just was more of a fan of some local artists. But I've heard the name a lot. I saw an interview with the guy who recently wrote his biography. Apparently, TP grew up in an abusive home. Congrats, Tom, on making a success of yourself despite difficult beginnings!

My wife dislikes his music, said he had a nasal monotone and ALL his songs sounded alike. She says the same of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

I've asked her to pretend she doesn't know me in public, but she is so contrary. I foresee an accident in her future...

Funny thing is, as far as TP was concerned, she wasn't wrong, but damn I love his songs...
