What are your views on Nelson Mandela who died yesterday evening in South Africa;

Activist or Pacifist or Terrorist

I do not think that any of the options cover the truth.
He was a freedom fighter who at one time supported violence but later adopted a pacifist and forgiving approach, and it is the latter for which he is remembered and honoured.

Proves the only difference between freedom fighter and terrorist is whether you win or lose respectively. He's no hero to me.

I think you nailed it with the sentence. The same could be said for Ghandi. Not averse to violence when they felt it would achieve their goals, changed their mind later. Does anyone mention the early years?

Oh my God yeah, Ghandi - "Man of Peace." We are told so many half truths it's sickening.

I don't suppose there's many americans who claim the right to bear arms is protection in case of a overriding malicious government, but at the same time deride Nelson Mandelas early support of a sabotage campaign against his malicious government.

That would be stoopid?!

You forgot to offer "Statesman" as an option.
