I have inherited a database that somehow creates a backup copy of itself in whatever folder it is placed. I cannot find any VBA code, macro, module, or event in the database that would allow this backup to occur. The problem is that people will not pay attention, open up the backup database and enter new info which is then lost.

I cannot find any reference to this online, can someone help me out for another place to look?

Thanks,
Ryan

When and at what interval are the backups created.

I can't find a specific interval, but whenever I delete the backup it will reappear within a day. The last backup was created on 4/11 and doesn't look like it has updated since then. It almost apears like something looks for a backup file and if its not there creates one.

Could it be, that you actually have some kind of backup program that is creating the backups.

No, the database sits on a network drive that is backed up every night and the backups cannot be seen by us common people. According to our IT department no such backup program exists in the corporation and no programs can be installed without IT approval.

I aree with Bob , Automating backup on exit or at intervals of a set number of records is not uncommon . If this is the case with your database view the code and use the Find Tool searcing the complete data base for the Word "Backup" or compactdatabase . Failing that ,it might be trigger by sql specific data Definition query

As you quote your IT department know of no such backup programme what a about a VB Script on your server ?
Assuming you are connecting via a server, can you copy the database and BE to non connected Pc to rule out server action?
My last grasping at straws, ,Ms will create a backup copy if ther is a serious proplem wtih the coding or coruption , but this would have a the word backup added to the data base name .
