Morning All,

After a few hours of Googling, and reading some threads on here from some very knowledgeable people, I've decided that I am going to start my database needs with MSAccess and thought it would be a good idea to get registered with the forums for WHEN I get stuck, which will probably be in an hour or so.

Basically, I am starting my own business, and I wanted a database to keep all my products information in one easy place. It needed to be a database rather than an Excel as there are many different distributors I use, and in the future, I want to be able to create a use a macro for a quoting tool. In order to do that however, I am sure I need to create a database first.

I am predicting (and hoping) that as my company grows, I will be able to convert/upgrade to some form of SQL server for ecommerce site, and for future staff members to be able to access the 'products' database. I know that there are sales software solutions available for that, but at this stage, money is tight, and I don't want to be spending out on expensive software that I am not going to be using to its full potential.

So prepare for all sorts of newbie questions as I start my database journey, and thanks all for the help so far :)

Hi justice, I think you've chosen the right place, I don't think there is a better forum, I think there are forums with more knowledgeable people in them, but they're not quite so good at helping beginners in my opinion. I think MS Access is definitely a good start, however you may like to keep an eye on VB .net there's a free version, and it also builds databases very easily, nearly as easily as MS Access I reckon.
