Pandemics are truly scary - but it takes PEOPLE to start doing irrational things to folks seen as "nonconformist." Vis-a-vis German concentration camps and USA "Japanese Internment" camps. Putting Native Americans on reservations. The creation of ghettos in cities around the world at different times, sometimes de jure, other times de facto, but separation and isolation nonethe less. Heck, I could go on, but the point is clear. All living examples of "out of sight, out of mind." Don't want them constantly on our minds so keep them out of sight.

Haven't we learned our lesson yet? You would think that the holocaust and the crimes in the US against the Japanese and American Indians, not to mention the reeducation camps in Russia and China would have left an indelible mark in the memory of the people of the world. Maybe this was what the push to erase history was all about? Governments want to be able to control people. If the population is historically literate, the can't get away with it.
