Congratulations to all in America on the election of their new president..

Not sure how I would have voted had it been an option (UK resident here) I always liked the idea of Obama as president with Elon in his DOGE role. Whichever way it had gone I'm sure it would have been fine but I am interested to see what comes of the D.O.G.E. Cutting stuff is about the only political strategy that is often practical and Elon knows how to cut stuff. I also think that some temporarary govt deep job losses is really not destructive to the economy at all.

I thought both sides had unattractive features and I hope the differences can be set aside so that everyone can move forward. Having quite a lot of eastern european friends I have watched as minor differences have escalated into a confilct that looks like it will continue for decades. As a newer country (relative fo Europe) I always felt that America benefited from a lack of entitlement of any one particular section but maybe with time that could change. Personally I have found when conflict stops prosperity arises quickly but we must guard against distrust and dark imaginings which seem to persist beyond a wholesome discipline.

Good luck to everyone

Lightwave, part of the problem is that you are right - both sides had significant negatives. Many people understand this next point, but it is not something that everyone understands. In politics, you have to amplify and focus on differences so that you can persuade people to avoid the predicted foibles expected if the "other side" wins. In other words, a lot of the differences are simply ordinary differences under a magnifying glass so as to call attention to the differences.

Don't get me wrong on this... there ARE negative consequences for one group or another depending on who gets in office - for EVERY election. That is of course due to the fact that there never seems to be quite enough to go around for everyone.

Here's hoping that Mr. Trump will have reasonable results. At least this time the Senate majority is his party and the House of Representatives will be close. Some of the headaches from 2016 had to do with a Democratic Congress opposing his every move.

If we don't win the House, the impeachments will start in January before Trump is even sworn in. That was their plan in 2016 and that is exactly what they did.

One that started more as a news discussion (which ALSO belongs in Current Events) but I've been busy because I'm currently having a ... let's call it a disagreement with our local parish (or county, to other folks) government on the standards for constructing a sidewalk and it has distracted me. However, Col, you ARE correct.
