Never knew Campbells made such good Chicken and rice soup. Of course maybe the Jambiya I mixed in helped a little

Actually, modern Cajun cooks will use a can of Campbell's soup as a quick substitute for something else. For instance, I know that when my sweetie is going to make shrimp etoufee' she will get a can of Golden Mushroom soup as a broth base. (Not the only ingredient, though.)

During the Covid fiasco Campbell's soup doubled in price for no particular reason.
Heinz soup then more than doubled. Maybe it's a ring?

I don't mind people making money but object to being overcharged. I have not bought anything from either company since and never will again.
Mind you when you look at the ingredient list in what is clearly a super UPF, I'm surprised I ever did.

Nobody overcharges me. If that's what I want and that's what it cost that's what I pay.

We have to advocate for ourselves. If the list of ingredients is filled with unpronounceable chemicals it might be best to avoid it, regardless of the price. Likewise, if there are corn products in the ingredients it's probably best to avoid those items also. In short less ingredients is better.

I've actually started my own garden...mostly tomatoes, potatoes and green beans. I've had my own chickens for some time - whoever said having chickens would save money should really take a course in economics, especially on the ROI part!

Chickens do provide an excellent example on the difference between "involved" and "committed." If you are making an omelet, a chicken is involved. If you are making coq au vin, a chicken is committed.

what if those unpronounceable chemicals taste good

What unpronounceable chemicals? I might have to look at it a bit but they ARE pronounceable... to me. OK, the PhD in Chemistry MIGHT have a little to do with that.

easier way than pronouncing them. I just cross them out. I am being factious of course, because at my age relieve is just a swallow away. I, however, achieved that philosophy in High School. I read where kissing spread germs, so I stopped immediately,…..Reading.

I have more interest in the value of something, other than just the price.

But these foods are designed to taste good, that is the whole object of the exercise. Scientists and phycologists have been employed by food companies for years. The texture and taste are designed in and addictive additives are used. Many snacks in a bag has to have an initial crunch, followed by a short pleasant taste , then the snack has to quickly melt away. Many foods are designed with as little chewing as possible.
Years ago even cigarette companies added addictive chemicals to their product. In fact they transformed into taste and flavour companies and started buying up food manufacturing.
As well as food and cigarettes you can also assume that addictive additives are in your beer, wine etc. Even the very cheapest of beers can be given a pleasant taste. Don't imagine for a minute that alcoholic drinks are not super UPFs. Beer today is nothing like the beer before the 1960s.
