Hey everyone,
I’m Emmanuel Katto from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) currently at a decision point in my development journey and would really appreciate your input. I’m looking to build a mobile application that will run on both iOS and Android, but I’m unsure whether I should focus on front-end, back-end, or even full-stack development. I'm also trying to figure out which programming language or framework would be the best choice for cross-platform development.
I’ve come across a few options like React Native, Flutter, and traditional native programming, but I'm not sure which would give me the most promising future in terms of career growth and opportunities.
Here are a few specific questions I’d love to get your feedback on:
Which Development Focus (Front-End, Back-End, or Full-Stack)?
Given the goal of building a cross-platform mobile app, which area (front-end, back-end, or full-stack) should I focus on to be most effective in today’s development environment?
If I choose to focus on full-stack development, will I be able to manage both the app’s user interface and server-side logic, or will it be too challenging to balance both?
Cross-Platform Mobile Development Frameworks:
Between React Native, Flutter, and native development (Swift/Kotlin), which do you think is the most efficient and future-proof for building mobile apps for both iOS and Android?
Are there any other tools or frameworks that you would recommend for cross-platform mobile development?
Career Growth and Market Demand:
Based on your experience, which skillset (front-end, back-end, or full-stack) is currently in higher demand in the mobile development space?
Is it better to specialize in a specific area (e.g., React Native for front-end mobile development) or to be a full-stack developer with expertise in both mobile front-end and back-end?
Real-World Development Experiences:
For anyone who has worked on cross-platform mobile apps, could you share what challenges you faced with frameworks like React Native or Flutter, and whether those challenges were worth overcoming?
What were some of the most valuable skills or technologies you learned while building a cross-platform app?
Long-Term Prospects:
In your opinion, which of the following has the most potential for growth and long-term career prospects: front-end, back-end, or full-stack development for mobile apps?
Do you foresee any particular trend in the mobile development field that could influence which area is best to specialize in?
I’m really excited to get started, but I’d love to hear from those with first-hand experience to help guide my decision. Thanks so much for sharing your advice!
Regards
Emmanuel Katto
