I have google this extensively but nothing comes close. How can I save a emoji that someone sent me so I can use it when sending a test to someone else.

That is going to depend on the source of the emoji. MOST emojis come from the UNICODE Consortium. If it happens that the "someone else" can see ordinary emojis, then the odds are high that if you save your copy of the emoji via cut/paste, you can forward it reasonably.

IF there was a special case emoji that was home-grown then it might be different for that case.

Not sure how you do that, so sorry, don't have a solid answer. If it shows up as an attached image file of some sort, copy that.

When I try and copy message it give me a little square in the header on my android but if click on the emojis little square doesn't appear.

Where there a will there is a way. I open the text with the emoji, snapped a pic with my other phone then sent to my phone.

You can usually put it on your clipboard and copy it
