We've been in a drought since summer. Sometime around midnight Monday night a fire broke out on East Mountain.

This picture is from Tuesday morning when they estimated it to cover about 100 acres.

Today they estimate it to be about 1,100 acres and still burning. They say it wont be totally out until winter.
The mountain is thick forest with no access roads.
It has spread over the mountain and they believe it will spread to Beartown mountain.
I tried taking my drone up but the smoke is so heavy I couldn't see anything.

Yikes! I hope it isn't threatening you or anyone else.

It's still 1/4 mile from any structures but if it spreads to Beartown it's closer to me.

Smoke is so thick it's sickening.

Is that in the vicinity of the New York state line, just east of it? Trying to figure out where it is.

I hope you and yours are not threatened. Forest fires ARE the way that nature takes care of overcrowded forests.

near great barrington ma. just east of ny.

The fire is now named The Butternut fire because it's approaching the Butternut Ski area. They also closed the Appalachian Trail that runs through that area. As of last night it was 0% contained. We're supposed to get light rain/snow today but they're not sure if it will have any effect.

Some wild pics are getting posted

Wow, that's a really serious wildfire.
I hope nature can contain it or put it out as I doubt us poor little humans can.

Pretty terrifying. Hope you are safe. We don't see a lot of out of control wild fires in New England.

5 days and still burning despite 2 days of rain and some snow. It spread another 100 acres to 1200.
