I'm kind of an odd duck (aren't we all?). My background is in military avionics/aviation maintenance management/IT. I was an enlisted avionics technician in the late 70s-early 80s, then went to college, then managed helicopter maintenance, then when I retired from the Marines I got into IT. I started coding in various languages as an EE student at Purdue in the mid-80s. I became fascinated with database design poking through all the microfiche I used to find the correct aircraft spare part to order. I loved the ordering, the sorting, and how the National Stock Numbers were formatted. So you can say I cut my teeth on logistical databases.
I was writing gnarly functions and spreadsheet macros in Lotus, VisiCalc, and Excel to support my maintenance department when I was on active duty. There was also a DOS-based integrated package that DOD bought because they didn't want to have to buy Windows. I wrote a bunch of apps in their spreadsheet and database environments.
I then started with DBase III and IV and then jumped onto Access as soon as it came out. So, like, the 1992-ish timeframe? I've been using Access ever since, job duties allowing.
Since then I have been an IT Manager/Director for various firms, and ran my own IT integration shop for about 15 years. I've managed to get degrees in Electrical Engineering (BS) and Computer Information Systems (MS).
I am very familiar with Access and relational database concepts. Not an expert by far, but I get most of it. And I enjoy it. With my latest employment I am finally able to really get down and dirty with database development in Access. So here I am.
I look forward to working with everyone.
I currently live and work in south-central Indiana, USA. I'm going to apologize in advance for our screwed up politics
