Hi,
With a table in open view can a record be moved to a different position, i'm using access 2003. Also is there any way to sort besides ascending or descending?
I've got a lot of tables to make and if I forget a single column/field and have to add it later (like I have done all ready numerious times) I'm almost having to recreate the table again in order to have the field fit in the correct spot in the table. These tables are bound to combo boxes so its important every thing is grouped for easy choosing.

Thanks--All help will be very appreciated

I'm almost having to recreate the table again in order to have the field fit in the correct spot in the table.

When you say this, do you mean you want have something like:

PRIMARYKEY, FIELD1, FIELD2, FIELD3, FIELD4

and now you want to add another field, FIELD5, between FIELD2 & FIELD3?

Also is there any way to sort besides ascending or descending?

Create queries and sort by whatever you want.

Sounds like you're using your tables as some sort of spreadsheet.
Don't and you don't need to ask questions that really make no sense at all considering Access is a relational database ;)

Are you having a bad day? This is--last time I looked--a forum where folks of varying degrees of expertise post their problems.

Lighten-up!

I'm going to add my 2 cents in here. Pat covered most of it, but I would add that Field order in a record doesn't matter either. Data entry should be done via forms not directly into a table. You can arrange your controls on forms in any order you want to.

You also talk about tables being bound to comboboxes. Tables are never bound to comboboxes. Comboboxes are used to standardize and speed data entry. Also, its not recommended that you use lookups on the table level, this may also be causing you problems in dealing with Access. Combos should be created on the Form level.

I would suggest you post with more details about your app and your table strucutre so we can help further.

Are you talking about inserting records or fields? The position of a record has been covered. In table design view, you can insert a field in any position. I agree that it doesn't matter to Access where the fields are in the table, but I prefer a logical sequence of fields - anything that makes life easier is fine by me!
