It was very useful for me to take a low-level electronics class so that when I entered graduate school I could eventually design the (simple-minded) circuit I needed for my dissertation research. I didn't need any of the fancy math to wire up some triggers for my experiment - but I did need to understand circuit continuity, grounding, and the functions of some common circuit elements. Even if you don't follow that very far, it ALWAYS helps to understand issues with connections.
