Linked tables

I have a small database running on LAN with one computer holding the backend linked to 12 computers on which the frontend runs, I was using windows xp in the computer holding the backend, it ran well but would automatically delink one of the computers and run only 11 frontend users.
To overcome this problem I loaded windows server 2003 into the backend computer, now all 12 computers link and work together but whenever I switch off the backend computer I have to relink all the frontend table to the backend again. Its a real pain:banghead:
ps: I have not created domains or used the Active directory
I need help or else suggestions what I might be doing wrong

If you are actually turning off the BE computer, you will need to either close the FE and reopen it or relink the tables if you don't close and reopen. You shouldn't be working on the BE while there are active users. Always have every user shut down before you attempt any maintenance.

This may be the problem. I shall be more careful to ensure that the BE is shut down after all FE's are.
