what is the best version that can be used without hustle? thanks.

why choose 2007 while you said 2003 is good too?

Access 2003 is very solid.

I use both. I can develop with 2007 on my 2003 databases without converting.

Even though I have current updates for 2007, I can see a couple of small minor glitches which over time I'm sure they'll get fixed.

For me, 2007 runs much slower, could be it wants more resources.

The user interface with Access 2007 is very good if presentation is an issue. There are a small number of niggles and minor issues but having come from Access 1997, it is a very good environment, may not be as fast.

Only thing in 2007 (apart from as mentioned a few glitches) is the menu system can take a bit of getting used to and the ribbon can take up almost a 1/3 of the working screen.. can of course be minimised and there are third party programs that will "replicate" well almost the old 2003 interface.

Suppose you could compare it to switching from XP to vista menus different and a hit in performance on lower spec machines but sooner or later everyone will move (Unless Access 14 appears first and blows it out the water ;) ) all a matter of preference and compatibility I suppose.

the truth is, that every version form A97 on is perfectly acceptable and useable

subsequent versions added extra functionality, and work a bit slower, but I think its fair to say that A97 introduced the modern control and data management set that made Access such a super database environment.

You will probably find that you prefer the first version you really get used to

eg - I dislike the F11 database window equivalent in A2007 - but I guess users who only know this get on with it fine.

I agree with Dave, familiarity with a version results in being comfortable with the development environment. I never used the Menu system or the Ribbon, naff, naff, the other change in Access 2007 was images being able to be stored in their native formats, rather than OLE. I know this sounds a little stupid, but I've had to ask the forum how to find something in Access 2007.

I remember an argument justifying an upgrade from Word 1997, 1997 has 100 commands and 2003 about 1000.

I don't think it matters what upgrade path you take, Bob Larson reckons Access 14 has some nice features so we await both this version and Windows 7.
