Hi all :)

Sometimes, I see that the process MSACCESS.exe doesn't quit after I close Access. I've seen the various posts about this before, but not a solution.

I still don't have a solution, but I have an observation.

If you look in Task Manager on the Details tab, right mouse on the MSACCESS.exe and click on Analyse Wait Chain. In my case, I found that access was waiting on splwow64.exe which is the print spooler.

I had not knowingly printed anything from Access, so that's a bit odd. If I figure out why it gets into that state, I'll report back.

I find that when access is still running like that but the GUI isn't, if I start access again, it behaves very badly and weird things happen.

This is Access from Office 2016.

While I don't know all the bloody-gory details (because Access is not open-sourced), it is possible that Access queried a printer because reports need to look at the selected or default printer in order to properly render each report. (Looks at "dots per inch" resolution, paper size, etc.) If at some point you opened some report in Print-Preview mode, you triggered such an inquiry. This would also apply to anything else you could print such as using the Documenter.

Thanks for reminding me about the "Analyze Wait Chain" - a very useful tool.
