I feel like an Access Forum Hog, but Im getting this error:

Unrecongnized Database Format 'F:\Gage Program\Gage Program.mdb'

I have made a shortcut of the *.mdb file on my desktop and thats when I click on it I receive this error. But I can open up Access and then find the file, open it up and I get no error. Whats going on?

Its weird. After I finally get the file open and then close it. I can then go to the desktop shortcut and open the file.

But if the computer is restarted then I get the same error.

Just a thought...

1) did you ever use another version?
2) what version do you use?

I have Access XP, but that should open any previous version .mdb file right?

Oh, another thing is that my Access XP keeps acting like 2000. Is there a setting to control this?

The thing to remember is that a shortcut and the entry to Access in the Start menu don't have to have the same default path.

When you open the database from the Start menu, you are in the default directory for Access.

When you open the database from a shortcut, the default path is stored in the shortcut. I would open the shortcut and look real hard at its properties. Particularly on the command line.
