I've just set up a business and need to buy a printer. The majority of the time, it'll be used for invoices and straightforward document printing. Occasionally, however, I'd like to be able to print colour documents or even decent quality photographs using it.

All of the printers I've looked at seem to specialise in B & W or colour, and document or photo printing. There seem to be a hundred and one review sites online and none of them appeat to come to any kind of a consensus.

Does anyone have any personal experience of a machine that will do all of the above and not cost the earth? I'd ideally like it to accept different sizes as well different types of paper (normal or photo quality). Any additional features (sending faxes, doubling as a printer, etc.) are fine but definitely secondary - it's the printing I want it for.

Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

I'm still setting up, so I was hoping to stay this side of $400 CAN.

I have a lexmark 6100 and have not had any problems with it. you can buy photo ink and regular ink so that should not be a problem. and I think my wife only spent in the neighborhood of 160$ US. is a scanner, copier and printer.

Sounds promising. What size paper does it accept (could I print 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 photos)?

I have a Konica Minolta color laser printer. It works great for color brochures and business graphics.

Plus it's only $400 at Staples

Thanks, both (it's much more reassuring to hear about personal use than just reading the product reviews).

I'll look into all three and get something sorted out.

I kept buying printers every 18 months as they kept packing up, print heads got clogged up and didnt work right etc. I got so fed up, I bought a Colour Laser from Epson. Its the C1100, and cost me over here £250. In the 12-18 months I have had it, only 1 or 2 paper jams, litterally, and no bother. Toner cartridges do cost more than ink, but there again you get more from them.

I would reccomened getting a colour laser, if you want a scanner, get a scanner. In my experience, the all in one jobbies are a headache, as if one part breaks, and it is out of warranty, you have to replace the whole lot.
