The trick is that the cells have to be of the right type to be transfused, but by growing them in a lab, they are likely to be healthier due to not having been exposed to viruses and bacterial sources. Here, I'm a little out of my subject, but I believe that T-cells do not have the typical A/B/AB/O typing inherently, so they could grow any kind of blood you wanted based on how you set it all up. Which would eventually lead to far fewer blood shortages after a catastrophe, natural disaster, etc.
