The straight dope light? Newbie question

Hey gang, I hope this is the correct forum. Just curious, the design of this board looks strikingly similar to The Straight Dope board. Is this a common default "look" for some boards? (the Dope is the only other one I've seen with this visual format).

This forum uses the vBulletin Software and so the other probably does too.

Also, with a user name like "CanvasShoes" I hope you aren't just trying to rack up 10 posts so you can post URLS. We take spam very seriously here and if you post any, you will be gone as soon as a mod/admin can delete the post and you. Now, I just wanted to give you that warning because your posts seem a little "suspect" for a newbie to an Access forum and as I was a mod/admin here for quite a while I have some "spidey sense" when it comes to spammers. And, a quick web search makes me even more suspicious.

Set your mind at ease! I'm only a newbie in the 2007 Access sense, not the internet one. I've chatted online in various formats (mostly human interest gossipy ones) for ages. It's a name I chose some 15 years ago, it started as a private joke between a coworker and myself regarding a really psychotic out of control supervisor and then just stuck. It was originally Canvas Shoes Only, but the very first website I joined had a character limit, so Canvasshoes was the only thing that made it.

I use it for all of my internet forays since I'm too old and my memory is too bad to remember a lot of different usernames. When you do a search, you will likely find me on the aforementioned Dope and a few Yahoo (sorry boring romance ones) boards.

A quick Google search shows a website by that name and several forum users using it which are banned. So, it is fine if you aren't and welcome. It may be that you were just unfortunate to grab a username which evoked my suspicious nature. We have had users with

NikeShoes
AdidasShoes

and others that turned out to be spammers. So, that is one of the reasons it was a bit of a red flag. So, anyway, if you aren't, that's great and you can sit back and enjoy the site. I hope you find the site enjoyable.

Thanks! I didn't know, the only thing canvasshoes turns up for me is shoe sale sites. (despite my username I'm more a fan of high heels ).

Sorry to raise your suspicion, but no, I'm not "that" Canvasshoes, and I'm not interested in posting URLs, (nothing I have online would be interesting to the average human). Though I am guilty (as you can see) of being chatty (some of we girls are ). Thanks again, I assure you, I'm not the spam-ey type.

CanvasShoes is a member (well, registered guest, which means the same thing there) in good standing at the Straight Dope Message Board, as far as I can see (I'm a regular there myself, posting under the ID Mangetout).
The standards of board etiquette at the SDMB are quite considerably more rigorous than they are here - I don't think you have anything to worry about with this person.
