hi,

i am a new memebr so i want to say hello to everyone, anyways i have created a database in microsoft access and have created a login screen where i have created different users and given them different access rights and permission in using my database, and that all works fine when i log on to the database from where the computer i created all these rights i get a login screen where the user enters the username and pass and then that opens up the database and allows the to view parts of the database which they are allowed to however my problem is this...

it works fine on the computer i created these access using the security (user-level security wizard) feature in microsoft access but when i open the database on a different computer it doesnt bring up a user login screen, meaning it lets anyone access the database etc so what do i do??? please help

regards rix

A few points:
I often wonder how many times its possible for one person to say the same thing. By repeatedly posting your message you have knocked people off the screen who also had questions. I'm sure they feel their questions are as important as yours.

Next, security features are kept in a file which is opened and saved in your Microsoft Windows directory. If the exact same file with the exact same features is not in the Windows directory on a second computer, Access can't read it and interprets that as NO SECURITY.

Next, are you familiar with the term "run-on sentence".

Finally, I'm not your English instructor but the only person on Earth excused captial letters is ee cummings.

hi,

o im sorry for posting so many as it was an accident when i was trying to post my message my screen frooze, so i clicked the button again to make it respond and i ended up having loads of same messages :(. However i have deleted them and thanks for answering my question. i also do appologies for my english.

So how do i i get the exact same file with exact same name and features on the windows directory on a second computer?

thanks, regards rix x

If you wish to run the database on a second computer, you must re-create your security on the second computer (the same way you did it on the first one).

If you are going to run it from more than one computer and you have a network, you might want to consider running it from the network. There are very specific requirements for setting up Access on a network. Do a search of the forum for "Access Network" to ge you going.

Running two identical databases from two separate computers is not a good idea. The reason is that the user on the first computer will update a table, but it's not updated on the second computer. As a result, neither database is current.
