Hey guys, I am wondering where John Big Booty is. It's been awhile. Any one seen or heard from him?

Welcome to the forums! We are the most active Microsoft Access community on the internet by far, with posts going back over 20 years!

To get started, I highly recommend you read the post below. It contains important information for all new users to this forum.

We look forward to having you around here, learning stuff and having fun!

Hopefully you and he are one and the same?

Perhaps you have shrunk a bit since you were last here?

Are you Peter?

In 2013, John had a run in with dear departed ChrisO, literally over nothing. What is the return datatype from the Nz() function?

John backed Microsoft's description of it being numeric or string depending on what was expected in the equation. Of course the function returns a Variant with the value Empty, which becomes zero when cast as a number or ZLS when cast as a String. In effect it behaves as described by Microsoft, though of course their explanation is technically implausible.

Anyone who has experienced interactions with ChisO would know he had an incredible wealth of knowledge and was as pedantic as he was knowledgeable. John took offence at being told the facts in no uncertain terms and continued to stand his ground on Microsoft's explanation.

We never heard from him again. Until then he had been one of the most prolific posters for many years. I think John's last words here were "goodbye and thanks for the fish".

BTW I'm raising a glass to ChrisO tonight.

He was already gone before I joined the forum but I still come across his posts from time to time.

A very impressive individual indeed...

ChrisO was amazing with what he could do, but he could be...abrasive in a disagreement. I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet him in person. Before he passed he asked if I would host some of his samples in case his site went down, which I was/am happy to do.
