    Removing Duplication in Complicated Report

There are no duplicates there. Certain fields are repeated as the information is extracted that way. it seems to be a problem that you need to sort out in a report or something you want to split the information for each AAA at condition between B and C printed once And the qualifiers listed...

How to design a water bottle which closes automatically when it falls?

I would think along the lines of a ketchup bottles one way valve, stop the water coming out even if you knock it over also, not just when dropped.

    TABLE

sorry Pat for not being clear, the link between entity group and group where the join on "group name" is not indexed or key. Far right tables On Wednesday I would not have spotted that, my joins would have been Guest to last name

    TABLE

Hello Pat thanks for that clear explanation, I have been doing a bit of work on joins and relationships so I think that I now have a bit of understanding in that regard, hard earned by trial and error. My only concern in your schematic would be Entitygroup - group. That would annoy me. I would...

    TABLE

Hello Larry Thank you for advice, what is a relationship window? I cannot show the names or contents of my tables.

Thanks for that Pat, it is good to know I will not be running up a cul-de-sac.

    TABLE

That is good to know Pat, a couple of things to sort out then I will need to do some concatenating. Before I start thinking about it in earnest, is it possible to mix text and numbers?

    TABLE

@The_Doc_Man Thank you so much for that explanation, I did not think that it would be possible but conversely was taught that there is no such thing as a daft question so thought it better to check. You explanations are so acute and concise, its also a gift that you can make them so...

    TABLE

Good Afternoon Good People Is there a way to directly reference a table and field in an earlier query that was not not explicitly referenced in that query? I didn't reference it because the additional field would have made my query go all shapes. I dont want to pull the table into the new...

Most efficient way to solve this problem

Access is fast enough for me - when you get it right it is like lightening. :) It took me a long time to find that 32 bit interface and even longer to configure it. It was that long ago I forget how I even did it. and I would miss everyone, a nice friendly helpful bunch. You can't buy that! :)

Most efficient way to solve this problem

Thank you for that suggestion, What is VP? could you please outline a brief overview of what is needed to do that? I used access because thats what I had on my computer. Since I am learning a new language it may as well be the right one.

Two nations divided by a common language.

You have my sympathies there, I too was a bit different at school. Almost every fight I ever got into was over bullying. I could not stand it, I was always a good fighter and "****" ( needs to into nations divided by a common language thread) of the school playground in every year, If I ever saw...

Most efficient way to solve this problem

I learned a lot yesterday, my joins were abysmal, on random names from the tables that seemed like a good idea. With some joins even the wrong way round. as soon as I improved them and linked ID fields to Id fields things got a lot,lot better. one query returned three and a half million records...

Most efficient way to solve this problem

After going round in circles and crashing almost everything I have built so far I've scrapped the idea of doing the whole backend and devised an on the fly method which results in only 22,000 rows to apply my subselect query too, Whilst messing about I improved the join structure and managed to...

Most efficient way to solve this problem

I have no control over the source data, there have been two occasions in the last 10 years when there have been considerations on a redesign. On each occasion it was determined that its too big to change and too big to fail. I have had a quick look at a couple of tables and I get a warning...

I wish I could, I have tried to turn the queries into tables and now they will not even run.

Most efficient way to solve this problem

It is pulling data from another query RF1 I thought that hid was indexed, I have not applied any separate index as such. I am very new to access and dont fully understand the nuances or ins and outs of it. I am trying to learn and pick it up as I go along.

Thank you for that reminder, that is my normal MO. I do not know why I have changed my method for this query. Thanks

I had to terminate the query, it was running over an hour and the progress bar only had the very slightest bit of "dark grey"
